Blue Hair, Crepes, and a Mini Haul

Hey everyone! I wanted to do a quick little post and update on what I’ve been doing and some purchases I’ve made today. I am going to jam in two weeks in one post, sorry if it seems scatter brained.

Last Saturday I did something on the daring side and dyed my hair blue. I’ve gotten a lot of comments, younger people seem to like it, which I expected. My mother and boss do not. Either way, I will be keeping it for a while. I made my first purchase on Modcloth last week, and I am following up with a second. As soon as the next shipment comes in I will model off the goodies. Everything fits so far, which is really nice because I sized down.

Today, my husband and I drove to Bethlehem for some delicious breakfast at “Full of Crepe.” It was fantastic, the only downside was that we both ordered savory, and I think we would have benefited if one of us ordered a sweet and we shared. There’s always next time and I’ll be sure to take some pictures to show and tell. With full bellies we headed to the mall so I can prep for Springtime with scents. Bath and Body works are already well into their tropical line, skipping a season and going right into Summer. I wish they had developed more clean floral for this Spring, I ended up with two fruity body washes and their traditional Sea Island Cotton.

The Maui Mango is pretty self explanatory. It smells like mango sweetened with pineapple. Love and Sunshine is a little deceptive with the daisies on the label. It smells like a strawberry that someone waved a lemon at. Sea Island Cotton will be for the spring. It smells cool and clean, like leaving your windows open for the first time after winter. There was also some little candles for my vanity that I picked up. Something small that could be lighted while putting on/removing my makeup. They are adorably tiny:

After that, a pit stop to TJ Maxx, where I had given up on finding anything good in the makeup section. I was pleasantly surprised when the familiar pink box and gold letters of Too Faced poked out of the bin:

Normal price is $18 on the web, I got them for $5.99 a piece. They were in great condition, I got them home, sanitized them, (you should sanitize anything you get from TJ Maxx) and swatched in natural lighting.

From right to left: Cop A Teal; dark shimmery teal color, Violet Femme; a pinky purple with gold flecks, and Poison Orchid; a deep purple with fuchsia colored flecks. I am excited to wear Violet Femme for everyday, not sure how the other two will fit in just yet.

That’s all I have for now friends. You’re up to date and hopefully you can scope out my new finds. Thanks for stopping by!

Sunday is Lip Day!

Saturday’s snow storm did nothing to slow me down. The trip to mall was a fruitful endeavor because the new shades of Sephora’s Cream Lip Stain are out and absolutely gorgeous! I’ve tried all types of liquid lipsticks, in different price ranges, but this line is my tried and true favorite, and a lot cheaper than the other brands. I grabbed three radically different colors, and honestly, I am in love with them all!

#06 Pink SoufflĂ© is a pinky nude that would work well on “less makeup” looks. If I only had ten minutes to get ready, I would use this, apricot eye shadow and a little mascara. Perfect for weddings and family occasions.

#10 Mandarin muse is a beautiful deep orange that will be perfect after the defrost. I’d use this with the Naked 3 palette, or I can picture this with a bare face and a pair of shades in the sun.

#15 Polished Purple is…well is a dark purple. It begs to be worn with a full face, dramatic eyes and ridiculous contouring. Which I sort of did today. I got weird looks walking into Wawa with this FOTD while wearing w hoodie and sweatpants:

Liquid lipstick review: Anastasia’s Sad Girl.

Liquid lipstick has been a new makeup obsession for the past few months now, and I fell into the hype of the brand new line from Anastasia Beverly Hills. I picked up two colors for $20 bucks a pop, but today, I wanted to talk about Sad Girl.

I took this from ABH’s Instagram. This is what the product looked like when first applied it and built the color up at 7:15 this morning.

Not exactly the same color, no matter the lighting. There are some delusional people on reddit who are convinced it’s the same, I can’t decide if it is just blind hope or brand loyalty. I still think it’s a very pretty color, but it applies less then opaque, requiring more product that is unable to dry. With just one layer, it shows off any dry patches or imperfections. Most liquid lipstick, the more you apply, it’s less likely to dry properly and there is a higher probability of transfer.

This was taken at noon, a cup of coffee that looked like a made out with it, a couple pretzels, and you can see it begin to bleed into my lip line. I rarely have this problem so I didn’t brush concealer around my lip. That is a big recommendation for this lip color, and possibly a rookie mistake on my part. At about 4:00 pm, the lipstick had enough.

The bleeding worsened and my lips became blotchy. This was after a salad and a glass of soda, but would say I got a good five or six hours out of the product. Not the best, but not the worst.

TL;DNR:
1. Hard to build up color that will last.
2. Color, while pretty DOES NOT match advertisement.
3. Color will bleed, use concealer.

A product I would recommend in it’s place? Sephora’s Cream Lip Stain in Everlasting Burgundy #10. Not as deep of a color, but if you are going for a burgundy, this is the one. It’s also longer lasting and easier to apply. Here’s is a quick swatch:

Saturday Haul: the day after the madness.

Black Friday is the epitome of how crazy and nasty human beings can be when it comes to deals. It’s best to stay far far away from any malls or shopping centers, no matter how tempting the deals. I woke up early today, the day after the carnage, and took a trip to Sephora.

There was a plethora of deals to be found. Firstly, they have tables setup with ten dollar “stocking stuffers.” Little minis of mid-range items. I grabbed a ten dollar lippy twofer from Kat Von D called Lip Love.

IMG_0013.JPG
There are two options in the pack, a .04 Oz studded lipstick in Lolita, and a .10 Oz everlasting liquid lipstick in Berlin. Lolita is a very brown pinky color, with a more than mid matte texture. I don’t want to call it completely matte, especially compared to it’s counter part. Berlin is pink with a reddish hue, more girly and very matte. It didn’t pull off easy when I tried to clean off and test my next find.

Meg Turney reviewed Sephora’s cream matte lip stain in her last haul video, and I decided to try them out myself. I wasn’t too thrilled with the limited color selection, but I picked out two I felt I could work into my weekday makeup. Always Red is a vibrant red. This is what I would wear if I was trying for an outrageous lip look. Everlasting Burgundy applies very dark, more of a brownish deep purple with a little bit of sparkle. I am a little meh about it, the lady at Sephora said it would work well with the season, and I am sure I can use it, but it’s not all I hoped it would be. Both are matte and really, really hard to rub off. One swipe on my lips provided complete coverage, and took me both eye makeup remover and a wipe to clean off. Worth the thirteen dollars for .169 Oz in my opinion.

I also picked up Kat Von D’s studded lip set, and brought it to the register with me, where the cashier informed me that the Kat Von D Star Studded eye palette was on sale. The original price was fifty-five buck, but now? Twenty-eight dollars! I am so glad I waited on getting it, I love that I saved all that money. I feel bad for the cashier though, I left the lip set behind, even though she and an associate really tried for the up sale. I was having none of that! (Okay, let me be honest. I will get it next week.)

This photo does not do the shadows justice. I swatched the two rows on my arm and knew right away that it’s a keeper. I may just like it better than my naked three palette, and you get twice the colors. 24 tins at .05 Oz. I feel there is a lot of versatility, you can go wild, or do a no look, look.

Welp, that’s it for this Saturday. On a side note, I am a little miffed at Ulta, so my next haul may or may not be there. For Black Friday, they had two Lorac mini palettes for sale. Except, they opened up on thanksgiving, and even though I ordered them online, Ulta cancelled my order due to not having enough product. They gave me a twenty dollar e-gift card, which is a step in the right direction, but the point I used haven’t been returned yet. I will reserve judgement until next week, but if I don’t get the points back automatically, a phone call shall be made!
